Jola Speaks

My Shield And The Horn

Jola Ajelabi

In 2 Samuel 22:1-3, David speaks of the Lord as his shield and horn, emphasizing God’s protective power and His strength to lift up. "My shield" represents God as a protector, one who guards us from the attacks of the enemy and shields us from harm. David faced countless enemies, yet he continually found refuge in God, knowing that God would shield him from every danger.

In biblical times, the horn symbolized strength, authority, and deliverance. For David, calling God the "horn of my salvation" expressed his trust in God’s ability to rescue him and secure his victory.

Together, the shield and horn illustrate both God’s protective nature and His strength to overcome. David’s experiences remind us that, no matter the battle, God stands with us as both our protector and the source of our strength. When we acknowledge God as our shield and the horn of our salvation, we are reminded that we don’t fight alone. His shield guards us, and His horn empowers us to stand firm and triumph.

This combination invites us to lean into God for protection in every area of life, and to recognize that our victories come from His strength, not ours. Just as David praised God for His unwavering protection, we, too, can trust Him as our shield and horn, holding onto faith that He will defend and uplift us through every challenge.
