Jola Speaks is a daily Podcast intended to grow and equip its listeners in their trust walk with God. The current focus is on obtaining clarity as we go through our individual processes with God - drop our own will, answering His calling, trusting Him and submitting to His Will. Why me? Why am I here? Why don’t I feel content with my achievements? What is happening to me? Why does my heart feel so heavy? What is wrong? Yes! we have so many questions, I have been there, I understand what you are going through, and you are not alone. I am by no means an expert and every episode is inspired by the Holy Spirit. Example Of Selflessness
In 2 Samuel 19:31-38, we encounter the story of Barzillai, a wealthy and elderly man who selflessly supported King David during his time of exile. Barzillai provided David and his men with essential supplies such as food, bedding, and other necessities when they were fleeing from Absalom. Despite David's offer to repay him by inviting him to stay in Jerusalem and receive royal provisions, Barzillai declined, preferring to return home to his own city and people.
Barzillai's example illustrates profound selflessness in several ways:
- Generous Support: Barzillai's initial act of kindness was providing vital support to David and his men when they were vulnerable and in need. He didn't hesitate to share his resources to alleviate their hardship.
- Modesty and Humility: Despite being offered a place of honor in Jerusalem and royal provisions, Barzillai humbly declined. He prioritized his responsibilities and ties to his own community over personal gain or recognition.
- Prioritizing Others' Needs: Barzillai's decision to return home underscored his commitment to caring for his family and community. He understood the importance of fulfilling his duties and obligations to those who depended on him.
- Long-term Impact: Even though Barzillai's actions might have seemed small at the time, his selflessness left a lasting impression. His example of sacrificial giving and loyalty is remembered and celebrated as a model of generosity and integrity.
In contemporary contexts, Barzillai's example challenges us to consider how we can selflessly support others, especially in times of need, without expecting personal gain or recognition. Whether through acts of charity, support for those facing adversity, or simply prioritizing the needs of others over our own, we can embody the spirit of selflessness that Barzillai exemplified centuries ago.
