Honoring Those Who Have Helped You!

Jola Ajelabi

In 2 Samuel 19:31-33, we encounter the story of Barzillai, a wealthy man from Gilead who provided for King David and his people during their time of great need. As David prepares to return to Jerusalem, he offers Barzillai the opportunity to come with him to the palace to be honored and cared for. Barzillai, however, declines the offer, feeling he is too old to enjoy the benefits of royal life and prefers to remain in his own city. Despite Barzillai’s refusal, David’s offer is a beautiful example of honoring those who have provided help and support during difficult times.

This passage teaches us about the importance of gratitude and honor toward those who have helped us along our journey.

In conclusion, the story of Barzillai and King David highlights the importance of recognizing and honoring those who have supported us in times of need. True honor goes beyond words—it’s expressed in gratitude, actions, and respect for the person’s wishes. As we reflect on this passage, let it encourage us to actively show appreciation and honor to those who have helped us along the way, remembering that their support has played a vital role in shaping our journey.
